Ocean

The ocean is bigger than the cities and the coastal towns, bigger than the dunes, the beach and the clouds. It looks cold and uninviting from above, but when, on any day, you dive into it, you can feel its steady weight press down on you, and you can descend to where the fishes hide in the sand, where animals are stuck in their place like plants, where the living merge into the dead and vice versa, the boundaries of things as indefinite as those of your cheeks and the rest of your decaying body.
